The Orlando Housing Authority (OHA) has eliminated interims. When there is a change in household income, the rent will not be adjusted until the next scheduled recertification. To assist households that experience a significant income loss outside of their control, OHA established the Hardship Exemption program. To participate, the Head of Household must complete the Hardship Request form and submit all required documentation.
Qualifying hardship will include the loss of income due to circumstances beyond the household’s ability to control, such as a medical condition or loss of employment due to a reduction in workforce or closure of the place of employment.
The household is responsible for paying their rent or rent portion while the Hardship Request is being reviewed. If approved, the effective date will be the month after the application and all required documentation is received by OHA staff.
If an adult household member is not employed, they will be referred to the MTW Resource Center. The MTW Resource Center will assist in finding employment. Participation is required.
If the Hardship Request is approved, you must pay the new rent or rent portion amount.
The Hardship request may be denied if all the required documentation is not submitted within ten (10) days of completing the request. The following documentation is required:
- Completed Change of Income and/or Family Members form
- Supporting documentation for the loss of income. The documentation must include the reason for the loss of income.
- Supporting documentation showing the household’s current income.
OHA may request additional documentation. It must be submitted within ten (10) calendar days from the requested date. If it is not submitted, the request may be denied.
